More About The Campaign

Just beside the Maha Kaluve in Jakkur, Bengaluru, sits 2 acres of land that the city had simply forgotten. For years, it was a dumping ground, out of sight, out of mind. Today, that's changing! BlueDot Foundation is restoring this land with one clear purpose: to give it back to nature, and to the people. The debris is gone. A borewell is in. Irrigation is being set up. And over 500 plants are already in the ground, growing. But we're just getting started.

Maintenance plan

For the next two years, BlueDotteam will water, nourish, and protect every sapling on-site. Monitoring survival rates and stepping in whenever a plant needs attention. You plant it, we nurture it.

What We're Creating

The 2-acre site will be transformed into two distinct green spaces:

The plan is simple but powerful two green spaces, side by side, on 2 acres of reclaimed land.

One acre will become a dense native forest. Not a manicured park, but a real, wild woodland planted with tree species that belong to this land and this climate. Over time, it will grow into a self-sustaining ecosystem, drawing back the birds, insects, and small creatures that Bengaluru has quietly lost to decades of construction.

The other acre will be a Butterfly and Medicinal Garden colourful, fragrant, and full of life. Native flowering and medicinal plants, chosen to attract pollinators and invite people to slow down, learn, and connect with nature in a way the city rarely allows.

Why This Matters

Urban green cover in Bengaluru is shrinking every year. Wetlands and nalas like the Maha Kaluve are under threat. By restoring this land, we're not just planting trees - we're rebuilding an ecosystem, improving air quality, recharging groundwater, and creating a public commons that belongs to everyone: children, elders, walkers, birdwatchers, and anyone who simply needs a breath of green in the city.

Timeline of impact

  • October 2025 - Restoration Begins The journey starts. Decades of accumulated debris are cleared from the 2-acre site, reclaiming the land from neglect.

  • December 2025 -The Land is Secured Fencing is completed, formally protecting the site and marking the beginning of its new identity.

  • January 2026 -Roots Go Deeper A borewell is installed, ensuring the forest has a reliable water source to sustain the plantation through all seasons.

  • February 2026 -Inaugural Plantation Drive The site is formally inaugurated with a community plantation drive, marking the first major milestone in the forest's creation.

  • March 2026 -Growing in Progress Irrigation infrastructure is set up and maintenance work is actively underway, keeping the existing 300 bamboo plants healthy and thriving.

  • June 2026 -Forest Complete All 2,000 trees and plants are in the ground. The dense native forest and the butterfly and medicinal garden take their full shape.

  • July 2026 -Full Maintenance Begins BlueDot Foundation's dedicated 2-year care program officially kicks off, covering watering, fertilisation, and sapling health monitoring across the entire site.

  • September / October 2026 - A Space Worth Visiting Walking paths, a pergola, and informative boards are added, transforming the forest into a welcoming, educational community space.

  • October 2026 -The Community Takes Over Workshops, nature walks, and community events begin. The forest becomes a living commons for Bengaluru.

Through June 2028 - Sustained Until Self-Sufficient BlueDot continues maintenance until every plant is fully self-sustaining, ensuring the forest lives on long after the project ends.
